Domaine Saint Andéol

Cairanne

Cairanne has become a “Cru,” just like Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, or Crozes-Hermitage. Cru is the highest recognition for an appellation in the Rhone region. This is a major honor for a region which only occurs approximately once a century. The honor signals to the rest of the world that this is a exceptional wine region. And certainly one of the greatest in the Rhone Valley. This shows that the village has a tremendous potential for high-quality products and the ambitions that go along with it. We wanted to get on this very early, and really secure one of the top producers of the region.

Although this wine is made with the old grape variety Carignan, the vinification was carried out in a modern style. The grapes are destemmed and crushed. A part passes the modern process of thermovinification and maceration, the other part goes through a traditional maceration on the grapes. The fermentation works at controlled tempera- ture to keep the wine's fruity aromas. The ageing is carried out in tanks with a small amount of French oak staves to add more complexity and roundness to the blend.

Taste: Dense and velvety, intense red berries and a lingering finish

Pairing: Serve at room temperature with red meat, roasted vegetables, hamburger, cheeses...
